Clicker Training for Success cont'd
The Human Voice in Dog Training
One of the problems associated with using your human voice alone, is that your voice is going to give a different
tone or pitch depending on whether you are happy, frustrated; or angry or excited, (i.e. when you are in an
emergency situation). If your dog has learned to associate a certain behavior or event with a specific tone of
voice, it may have difficulty determining what you want it to do - especially if your voice pattern varies. After
all, dog training is not just about you understanding how your dog thinks, but it also involves your dog
understanding what you want done.
Some one once said that "if the
trumpet plays an uncertain sound, how will the soldiers on the battle field know what to
do". This same principle applies to your dog training. Good, clear,
consistent communication is absolutely essential if your dog training is going to quickly produce
results.
How To Use A Clicker in Your Dog Clicker Training
Program
So how and when should you use a dog clicker? Basically when your dog successfully carries out a desired behavior,
you are going to re-in force that behavior by giving the clicker a squeeze. It is good to then follow up with a
treat and some praise. Try and time squeezing the clicker to coincide with the desired action. This marking or
anchoring will soon let your dog know that he or she has been successful and that it is about to be
rewarded.
Although the use of a dog clicker is simple, the advanced training principles
involved aren't. So many people choose to curl up with a good dog click training book or video before starting. At
Dog Obedience Training Solutions we have included Dog Clicker Book Reviews and recommended many of the best books,
DVD's, and videos on click training resources. These are guaranteed to speed up the learning curve for you and your
pet. We hope you have a lot of fun with your dog clicker training!
